WOODBERRY DOWN
Community Primary School
Woodberry Grove, Lonon N4 1SY
Last year we had an exhibition called Fortress Europe for Refugee Week. This year we have Escape to Safety. Places are limited- so please book early.
Woodberry Down is meeting all costs for the schools we have worked with this academic year.
About Escape to Safety
Escape to Safety is an interactive multimedia installation, built into a 12.5m box-trailer, that enables you to experience something of what it is like to be a refugee seeking asylum in Britain. It is designed for young people and adults from the age of 10 upwards. It provides the opportunity to think about issues such as:
What is the welcome we want to give to refugees?
What is your image of asylum seekers in Britain?
Where does this image come from?
Each participant walks through a labyrinth of 8 'stations' depicting the different stages a refugee experiences before seeking asylum in Britain. On a portable CD player, they are accompanied by refugee voices from Rwanda, Afghanistan and Palestine interacting with border immigration officials and the media.
Escape to Safety is an emotional experience, combined with facts and figures, that challenges racism towards refugees. Escape to Safety is premised on the idea that emotional learning is the most profound and effective form of learning.
Please e mail the school (woodberrydown@hotmail.com) to book. Please state the time and day you would like. The latest version of bookings is always online.
The 4pm slot can be booked for staff meetings or individual/small group staff visits as well as for visits by children. The exhibition is suitable for Y5 and 6 up to adult level.
We will provide a member of staff to guide visitors through the process of managing the visit.

BY TUBE
The nearest tube is Manor House and we are less than 5 minutes walk. If you are coming by tube, take the Piccadilly Line to Manor House. Once you come through the ticket barriers you will see a newsagent’s kiosk. Take the exit to the left of this and walk up the stairs. You are now on Seven Sisters Rd. Walk straight down until you reach a crossroads. Turn left at the crossroads. You are now walking up Woodberry Grove and will see the school.
Funding to support your visit
If you are unable to easily travel by public transport we can provide funding towards coach hire to visit Escape to Safety. This will be in the region of £75 per school that needs it.
This project is supported by Community Chest funding.
